Top Gas Savers

With gas prices shooting up above three dollars a gallon and expected to rise, a lot of people are starting to become interested in gas savers (fuel efficient cars). The government has also added to the interest with the "Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005" that provides a tax credit of up to $3,400 based on the fuel economy of the vehicle (gas saver) being purchased.

I have put together a list of the top gas savers along with the IRS tax credit for each vehicle:
  1. Small Car: Toyota Prius
    EPA city/highway mileage: 60(city)/51(hwy)
    IRS Credit: $3,150

  2. Sedan: Toyota Camry Hybrid
    EPA city/highway mileage: 43(city)/37(hwy)
    IRS Credit: $1,550

  3. Luxury: Lexus GS 450h
    EPA city/highway mileage: 25(city)/28(hwy)
    IRS Credit: $2,600

  4. SUV: Ford Escape Hybrid
    EPA city/highway mileage: 36(city)/31(hwy)
    IRS Credit: $2,600

  5. SUV: Toyota Highlander Hybrid
    EPA city/highway mileage: 31(city)/27(hwy)
    IRS Credit: $2,600

  6. SUV: Lexus RX400h
    EPA city/highway mileage: 31(city)/27(hwy)
    IRS Credit: $2,200

As you can see the Toyota Corp. is still leading the pack with the most gas savers on our list. But with gas prices expected to stay high, the other car companies will start to close the gap as the bring out gas saving vehicles of their own.
