Private Jet Rentals

Flying in private jets are not longer only available to ultra-wealthy. Private jet rentals are now within the realm of the moderately affluent. With recent innovative companies entering into the private jet chartering business, a private jet can be used relatively cheaply these days.

One of the big problems with private jet charters, is that they will usually cost double the time you are actually on the plane, because the plane won't wait for your return flight. The means that pilots are flying empty some 40 percent of the time.

One company OneSky Jet Network (www.onesky.com) is now helping travellers take advantage of these empty plans which can save the traveller up to 50 percent. If you are flexible on your travel days you can save even more by allowing them to place you on empty jets. The service won't typically work with same day flights or if you are travelling to certian out-of-the-way locales.

Other private jet rental companies:

NetJets: Largest private jet fleet around. Sells fraction ownership shares of private jets. Prices start at $406,250 for a 1/16 interest in a small private plane, so this is a very expensive way to go and is only for those who plane on flying over 50 hours per year. In addition to the initial cost and flight time costs, you will also be charged ongoing maintenance fees since you own part of the plane.

Marquis Jet: Sells chunks of time on NetJets planes in 25 hour increments starting at $115,900. The good thing is that you get to use NetJets fleet, but you will most likely be charged not only for the amount of time your in the air, but also the time to return the plane home.

Sentient Jet: Sells membership debit cards starting at $100,000 to fly on approved charter operators. The good things are that you are only charged for the time you are in the air and you can choose the size of the plane you need. The fees are typically twice the costs of regular charter operators.
